Clinical Psychologist with Expertise in Family and Couples Therapy 

Half Time Inpatient Psychiatry Service and Half Time Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic - Akron, Ohio

Summa Health is seeking a skilled and experienced Family and Couples Therapist for a unique position providing Family therapy in two distinct settings within the department of psychiatry.  The first setting will involve providing family systems based interventions with adult patients (and their significant others) being treated on our inpatient psychiatry and chemical dependency detox units at St. Thomas Hospital.  The work on our inpatient units will also include consultation and treatment planning with inpatient psychiatry staff and psychoeducational group sessions for the inpatients on these units.  The other half of this position will involve providing Family and Couples therapy in a multidisciplinary outpatient Summa Health Medical Group Psychiatry clinic.  The selected candidate will become a member of Summa Health Medical Group a multi-specialty group practice of 350+ physicians employed by the Summa Health System. Summa Health is one of the largest integrated Healthcare Delivery Systems in the state of Ohio.
 

Candidate Expectations

  • Provide Family and Couples therapy to improve family functioning and communication skills and contribute to a successful transition for our psychiatry and chemical dependency inpatients.
  • Provide consultative services and psycho-educational group therapy on psychiatry inpatient units.
  • Provide Family and Couples therapy to a diverse patient population as part of a multidisciplinary psychiatry outpatient clinic.
  • Candidate Requirements
  • Doctorate degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program 
  • License to practice as a psychologist in Ohio, or willingness to obtain
  • Specialized training in family systems theory and experience providing Family and Couples therapy in outpatient settings.  
  • Preferred candidate will have experience working on inpatient psychiatry and/or chemical dependency units
