Website Privacy Policy

Summa Health System is committed to protecting the privacy and security of visitors to our website. This statement explains how we handle information we learn from your visit to our website. THIS PRIVACY POLICY ONLY APPLIES TO INFORMATION WE COLLECT ON OUR WEBSITE.

You can access and browse our website without providing any personal information. We do not collect information that would personally identify you unless you choose to provide it.

Eligibility to Use Our Website

You agree to comply with all applicable laws when using our website, and you may only use our website for lawful purposes.
As a condition of visiting, accessing or using our website, you acknowledge your understanding and agree that such visit, access or use is done at your own risk. Furthermore, by visiting, accessing or using our website, you acknowledge your understanding and agree that your visit, access or use of this website does not create a healthcare provider-patient relationship or any duty on the part of Summa Health System. Our website contains forms for you to request information or supply feedback to us. In some cases, telephone numbers, email addresses or return addresses are required so that we can supply requested information. In other cases, correct names and addresses are required to process credit card payments.

After you fill out a form, we may contact you with follow-up information and questions. We do not provide any information supplied on our web forms to any outside organization (other than where we may be required to by law, or as necessary to process a transaction). If your email address has been subscribed to any newsletters or marketing communications from us, you always have the option to unsubscribe by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any such emails you receive. Please note, however, that in general any clinical communication you receive from us is a direct response to your inquiry and cannot be opted out, except as may be accommodated under our Notice of Privacy Practices.

Occasionally, we survey visitors to our site to help us understand the needs of our visitors, so that we can improve our site. We generally do not ask for information that would personally identify you. If we do request contact information for follow-up, you may decline to provide it.

"Phishing" is a scam designed to steal your personal information. If you receive an email that looks like it is from Summa Health System asking you for your personal information, do not respond. We will never request your password, username, credit card information or other personal information through email.
In the event you access any service requiring a username and password, you are solely responsible for keeping such username and password strictly confidential.

Non-personal Information

The Web server automatically collects the IP (which stands for Internet Protocol) address of the computers that access our site. An IP address is a number that is assigned to your computer when you access the Internet. It is not truly personally identifiable information. However, we use this information in aggregate form to understand how our site is being used and how we can better serve visitors.

Please note that although such information is not personally identifiable, we can determine from an IP address a visitor's Internet Service Provider and the geographic location of his or her point of connectivity.

We collect information about visitors to our site using a variety of tools, including but not limited to the following:

  • Cookies: Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that are stored on your computer or device through your web browser. Cookies are never associated with specific personal identities. You can delete our cookies at any time. The "help" section, located on the toolbar of most browsers, will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie or how to disable cookies altogether. Since cookies allow you to take full advantage of some of our website's best features, we recommend that you leave them turned on.
  • Web Beacons: Web beacons are pieces of code embedded in a website or email to monitor your activity on the website or your opening of the email, and which can pass along information such as the IP address of the computer or device you use to view the website or open the e-mail, the URL page on which the web beacon is located, the type of web browser that was used to access the website and previously set cookie values. Web beacons are sometimes used to collect advertising data, such as counting page views, promotion views or advertising responses. Disabling your computer’s, device’s or web browser’s web beacons may prevent some web beacons from tracking or recording certain information about your activities, but if you disable all such web beacons, then certain areas of our website might not function properly.
  • Scripts: Scripts are pieces of code embedded in a website to define how the website behaves in response to certain key or click requests sent by the user. Scripts are sometimes used to collect information about the user’s interactions with the website, such as the links the user clicks on. Scripts are often temporarily downloaded to the user’s computer or device from the website server, active only while the user is connected to the Site and deactivated or deleted when the user disconnects from the website. Please be advised that if you disable any scripts through your web browser or other means, then certain areas of our website might not function properly.

We may also employ tools provided by Google Analytics to analyze the audience of our website and to improve our content. In general, this means that third-party vendors, including Google, may show Summa Health System ads on sites across the Internet based on visits to our website. To implement these tools, Summa Health System and third-party vendors, including Google, use first-party cookies and third-party cookies to inform, optimize and serve ads based on past visits to our website. The Google Analytics Privacy Policy is available at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
