Your Discharge

Your physician must write a discharge order before you can leave the hospital. It is important you remember to check with your physician or nurse for any special medications or home care instructions prior to your departure from the hospital. At the time of your discharge, a hospital employee will escort you in a wheelchair to the discharge area.

Survey/Customer Service

Summa Health System wants you to have the most positive experience possible while you are a patient in one of our hospitals or facilities; therefore, you may receive a satisfaction survey which will be mailed to your home after you leave the hospital. Please provide us with your comments by completing and mailing the survey.

If you do not receive a survey and would like to give us your feedback, please call Summa Connections (800) 237-8662 and one will be mailed to you.

Summa's Palliative Care and Hospice

Summa Health Palliative and Summa Health Hospice teams focus on providing care that enhances the comfort and quality of life for patients and their families. Summa Health Hospice offers uncompromising quality care to terminally ill patients and support for the people who love and care for them.

Summa Health Palliative provides strategies to manage the effects of treatment or pain and other symptoms associated with serious illness. The service also addresses the emotional, social and spiritual issues patients and their families may experience.

At Summa Health System - Akron Campus, the Acute Palliative Care Unit (ACPU) features a unique environment where staff can provide care within the comfort and healing environment patients and their families need. This holistic approach is better suited to the palliative care patients than the care that is possible elsewhere in an acute hospital setting.

Summa Health Wadsworth-Rittman Medical Center also provides palliative care. Please talk to your nurse or physician for more information.
