Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Services

Our growing team consists of board-eligible, fellowship-trained surgeons with experience in a broad range of techniques and procedures.

Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive surgery is typically performed to restore correct form and function following abnormalities caused by birth defects, injury, disease, or aging. Its goal is typically to improve body function.

Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery, however, is a type of plastic surgery performed to enhance or change body shape or appearance and is not considered medically necessary. In some cases, a procedure thought to be cosmetic in nature can be performed to achieve a reconstructive goal as well.

Summa Health Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons

The Summa Health plastic and reconstructive surgery team consist of board-eligible, fellowship-trained surgeons with experience in a broad range of techniques and procedures, such as virtual surgical planning (VSP) for head and neck reconstruction and microsurgery.

Using microsurgical techniques, our surgeons can transfer large tissue segments, whether soft tissue or bone, to distant sites in the body by connecting very small blood vessels and nerves. These techniques are particularly useful in breast, head and neck, and lower extremity reconstruction.

Offering a multidiscipline approach, our cosmetic and reconstructive surgery experts work in close collaboration with otolaryngology (ENT), the breast center, dental and orthodontia, orthopedics, vascular, bariatrics and general surgery to offer simple-to-complex treatments, like:

Reconstructive Surgery

In addition to correcting cuts and other surface wounds, our reconstructive surgeons regularly treat both cancerous and non-cancerous growths and issues with supporting structures beneath the skin.

Lymphatic Surgery

With our innovative and collaborative approach to treatment, Summa Health plastic and reconstructive surgeons collaborate with interventional radiologists, anesthesiologists and other specialists in lymphatic disorders to treat disorders.

Breast Reconstructive Surgery

Patients who have had surgery as part of their breast cancer treatment may choose oncoplastic and breast reconstructive surgery to rebuild the shape and look of the breast.

Face, Head & Neck Reconstruction

Summa Health surgeons are specially trained in the most sophisticated and precise techniques, including microsurgery, tissue substitutes, and the latest in wound care.

Facial Paralysis and Reanimation

Nerve damage due to trauma or other conditions, such as Bell’s palsy, can lead to an inability to move the muscles of the face on one side or both. Facial paralysis can make it difficult to smile, blink, swallow or smile.

Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic plastic surgery includes surgical and nonsurgical procedures that enhance and reshape structures of the body to tighten and improve the appearance of skin, adjust facial features, and much more.

Find a Plastic Surgeon

The expertise of plastic and reconstructive surgery is often needed by other disciplines to “close the loop” of treatment. A plastic surgeon’s special skills can improve healing and reduce scarring when a wound is large, jagged or cannot be covered with the skin currently at the site.
