Interventional Radiology

Providing key services on multiple levels

Interventional Radiology Interventional radiologists use minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose and/or treat conditions in almost every organ of the body. Using imaging techniques such as CT scans, ultrasound, MRI, and fluoroscopy, interventional radiologists view images that are used to guide instruments through the area of the body that is being diagnosed or treated.

Treatment of many diseases such as cancer, narrowing of the blood vessels, kidney failure or spinal fractures is often performed using Interventional Radiology (IR). Since IR utilizes minimally invasive techniques, patients are less likely to suffer major trauma to body tissues and organs, and treatment and healing processes are faster. In most cases, patients can return home the same day of their procedure.

Common disorders treated by interventional radiologists include:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
  • Aneurysms
  • Bile duct obstruction
  • Cancer treatments. Bone, Breast, Kidney, Liver, Lung and Prostate

  • Renal artery stenosis
  • Renal failure

  • Spinal fractures
  • Thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA)
  • Uterine fibroids

Common IR procedures can include:

  • Ablation, including cryoablation, radiofrequency and microwave ablation
  • Angiography

  • Catheter placement
  • Cholecystostomy
  • Embolization, including chemoembolization
