Summa Health Wadsworth-Rittman Medical Center

At Summa Health Wadsworth-Rittman Medical Center, the center recently began offering a new Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)/Observation Unit within our Emergency Department. Currently, the medical center offers three CDU/Observation beds but has plans to expand to four beds in 2019.

Clinical Decision Units are designed for patients who need care related to prolonged monitoring and treatment for up to 24 hours. Among the types of patients treated in CDUs are those with chest pain, asthma, cellulitis, dehydration, allergic reactions, hyperglycemia (elevated blood sugar) and head injuries. The CDU rooms are designed with the patient’s well-being in mind, featuring a comfortable bed, television and easy bathroom accessibility.

In addition to the new CDU beds, Summa Health is investing into the renovation of the operating rooms at the Wadsworth medical center. This multi-pronged project involves conversion of one of our OR suites into a minimally invasive surgery suite for orthopedic and ENT patients with built-in, state-of-the-art video equipment and fully updated ancillary areas. It is expected that other clinical areas, such as general surgery and gynecology, will also use the new OR suite.
