Overview of the Specialty Pharmacy

A Specialty Pharmacy supports patients with chronic and complex conditions, such as cancer, Hepatitis C, HIV, rheumatoid arthritis, or multiple sclerosis, who are prescribed expensive medications. These medications are not usually available at retail pharmacies and may require special handling, like refrigerated shipping.

If you or your loved one needs a specialty medication, the Summa Health Specialty Pharmacy is committed to making it as easy as possible for you to get and manage your medication so you can achieve the best possible results from your treatment.

Using the Summa Health Specialty Pharmacy gives you direct access to caring and experienced pharmacists and pharmacy liaisons who are familiar with your condition and medications. Some of the services our team provides include:

  • Access to after-hours emergency support from our pharmacists, 365 days a year
  • Assistance finding the most affordable medication copays
  • Management of prior authorizations
  • Personalized care tailored to your medical condition
  • Ongoing education about how to take your medications correctly and manage any side effects

The Specialty Pharmacy Patient Management Program

The Patient Management Program employs specialized clinical staff who provide you with caring and dedicated support. We focus on giving you the information and guidance you need to support your adherence to therapy. We will work with you, your family, or your caretaker to promote your medication and disease state understanding, adherence to your medication regimen, and the potential prevention and detection of adverse drug events. Our goals are to provide appropriate education, support, and communication to better support you in your therapy.

In doing so, our Patient Management Program proactively works with patients with chronic disease states to provide specialty pharmaceuticals and therapy management support services to obtain optimal therapeutic outcomes, thus potentially avoiding adverse drug events and unnecessary costs.

The benefits you receive from the Patient Management Program can be limited by lack of participation or non-compliance with the services being offered, or you're opting out of participation in the future. You have the right to opt-out of the Patient Management Program at any time.
