Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer
Robert Gerberry is Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for Summa Health System. Gerberry joined Summa in 2002 as an associate general counsel and has provided guidance on all aspects of healthcare law with a focus on regulatory matters and strategic and transactional projects, including mergers and acquisitions, affiliations, joint ventures, and physician alignment initiatives. His responsibilities extend for the oversight, growth and development of several important areas of the organization, including legal services, SummaCare legal services, corporate compliance, government relations, internal audit, physician services and governance.
Prior to Summa, Gerberry practiced with the Cleveland law firms of Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP and McDonald Hopkins LLP. In addition to his work at Summa, he serves as Vice Chair of the American Health Lawyers Association’s (AHLA) In-House Counsel Practice Group, is the past President and a current member of the Ohio Hospital Association Council of Attorneys and has served on the Cleveland Bar Healthcare Committee.
He also is a frequent national speaker, having given presentations at AHLA, American Medical Group Association, Brookings Institute, American Hospital Association and at other national meetings on a variety of topics. Gerberry also has served as Adjunct Faculty at the Case Western Reserve School of Law, has been named a Rising Star in Healthcare Law by Ohio Superlawyers, and has written publications and articles for national health law journals, including a chapter in an upcoming book about ACO performance metrics.
He earned a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, and his J.D. from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law.
