Dentistry

The Summa Health Dental Clinic is dedicated to resident education using advanced high technology equipment and a strong clinical and academic educational program. The patient population is large enough to provide a wide variety of experiences for both inpatient and outpatient care.

Emergency Medicine

The Summa Health Emergency Medicine Residency provides an opportunity for residents to get the entire breadth of emergency medicine experience at one of the largest and most advanced EDs in the region. 

Family Medicine - Akron Campus

The Family Medicine Residency at Summa Health Akron Campus celebrates it's 50th anniversary this year. The curricular offerings include longitudinal experiences in home care, addiction medicine, practice management, communication, wellness, leadership, efficient EMR documentation, safety and lean six sigma process and quality improvement.

Family Medicine - Barberton Campus

The Family Medicine Residency Program at the Summa Health Barberton Campus was established in 1982. This nationally recognized program is unique in Northeast Ohio and attracts exceptional new doctors – the brightest and the best - who want to specialize in family medicine.

General Surgery

The Summa Health General Surgery residency program has a rich history with high standards of excellence in patient care, education and research.  Established in 1930, it is the oldest accredited surgical program in Ohio.  The culture here is truly unique, offering the academics of a high-caliber university program in a community-based setting.

Internal Medicine

The Summa Health Internal Medicine program has national prestige – as one of only 17 in the nation invited to participate in the Educational Innovations Project (EIP), designed by the ACGME.

Obstetrics / Gynecology

ObGyn residents begin learning on day one. From personal bedside patient care to state-of-the-art technology with our DaVinci robotic surgery suite and a laparoscopic surgery rate three times greater than that of general ObGyn hospitals.

Orthopaedic Surgery

The Summa Health Orthopaedic Surgery Residency provides a close-knit and collegial atmosphere. It’s all about collaboration and hands-on learning. As a resident, you work closely with highly skilled orthopaedic surgeons that are fellowship trained in a diverse array of orthopaedic subspecialties.

Pathology

The Summa Health Pathology Residency program has a rich history – with over 50 years' experience preparing students for success in community pathology and fellowship training. In this small community of passionate and qualified instructors, students receive personalized training for today’s world of anatomic and clinical pathology.

Pharmacy

A Summa Health Pharmacy resident will gain experience through a number of clinical rotations, and learn through interactions with a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals devoted to providing optimal care to patients with various disease states and a range of complexity of patient problems

Psychiatry

Summa Health is the sponsoring institution for the shared Psychiatry Residency Program. Training activities take place at Cleveland Clinic Akron General, Akron Children's Hospital, and agencies of the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board, including Community Support Services, Portage Path Psychiatric Emergency Services, Psycho-Diagnostic Clinic and the Portage County Jail. 

Transitional Year

Summa Health System offers a one-year, fully accredited Transitional Year sponsored by the Departments of Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. Its objective is to provide a multidisciplinary education on which to base further medical training.

Urology

The Urology program is an ACGME approved, shared residency of Summa Health, Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Akron Children’s Hospital. This program offers two positions per year.
