Prolotherapy Injections

Prolotherapy is a recognized orthopedic procedure that stimulates your body’s healing processes to strengthen and repair injured and painful joints and connective tissue. Traditional surgical approaches come with more risk and may fail to stabilize the joint, while anti-inflammatory or other pain relievers only offer temporary relief.

During the prolotherapy procedure, a solution containing natural substances and a local anesthetic is injected into your affected ligaments, tendons or joint capsules. (Steroids are not used.) The solution stimulates your body’s natural ability to repair the small tears and weakened tissues, encouraging growth of new ligament or tendon fibers. Additional treatments allow a gradual buildup of additional tissue growth to restore and strengthen the affected area.

Many conditions respond well to prolotherapy, such as:

  • Back and neck arthritis
  • Whiplash
  • Joint sprains
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Sprains
  • Chronic tendonitis

This treatment may result in a temporary increase in pain with mild swelling and stiffness. The discomfort usually passes fairly quickly, though, and can also be reduced with pain relievers.
