Summa Nursing Councils

Summa provides many opportunities for nurses to be involved in all aspects of their practice.  Each unit has a Clinical Practice Council (CPC) composed of nurses from that unit, and there are two Nurse Practice Councils with representatives from many inpatient and outpatient units. If you are interested in becoming part of one of these groups, please talk to your Unit Director.

Nurse Practice Councils

The Nurse Practice Councils have representatives from each of the unit-based Clinical Practice Councils.  The purpose of these groups is to integrate and coordinate nursing practice and clinical decision making at the organizational level within Summa Health System to enhance patient care outcomes and the professional development of nurses and to ensure decisions and recommendations of the Nurse Practice Councils are consistent with the OBN, The Joint Commission, regulatory agencies, professional standards and current evidence based practice.

Nursing Research Council

The Nursing Research Council (NRC) supports the Clinical Nursing Research Program through protection of human subjects and scientific review of research proposals; and through collaboration for facilitation of nursing research within Summa Health and in the local, state, and national nursing communities. The NRC provides preliminary review of proposals prior to submission to the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The NRC meets the third Thursday of the month 1:30-3:00 p.m. for proposal review.
