Happy Nurses Week: May 8-12, 2023
While National Nurses Week is May 6-12, Summa Health will be celebrating May 9-13. Nurses Week is an annual opportunity to honor the contributions and positive impact of America’s four million registered nurses, the largest group of healthcare professionals in the United States.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, honoring our nurses is even more significant, which is why the American Nurses Association has designated May as Nurses Month.
Summa Health is proud to honor our 2,100 nurses who – fueled by compassion, empathy and kindness – provide the highest quality of care to hundreds of thousands of patients throughout Northeast Ohio. The past year, the difference our Summa Health nurses made on patients and families, colleagues, and our community was particularly evident. These genuine heroes sacrificed time away from loved ones. They risked exposure to care for patients and each other. And, they remained flexible, serving wherever they were needed throughout the system.
To all of our heroes – and especially our nurses – thank you and happy Nurses Week!

Nursing Staff Development Fund
Summa has created a unique opportunity for you to honor your favorite Summa nurse by making a gift in his or her name to the Summa Health Nursing Staff Development Fund. The fund provides educational opportunities for our nurses in the form of attendance at conferences, as well as the purchasing of educational training systems, programs and equipment — all of which is only available through private gifts from friends like you.
To support continuing education for our nurses during National Nurses Week and to honor your favorite nurse, please make a donation on the Summa Foundation website, select “Other” for the designation and leave a note for your nurse in the comments section. Your nurse will be notified that a gift was made in their name to enhance nursing education and training opportunities here at Summa.
