Maternity Visitation Guidelines

Masking is optional when entering our facilities. There are some conditions that require masks based upon the patient’s condition. If you do not have a surgical mask, one will be provided to you. Please follow instructions on signage that may be posted on the patient’s door. If a support person, visitor or doula is ill, has a fever or respiratory symptoms, they will not be allowed to stay.

Visitors for Maternity patients should expect the following process:

Triage:

One designated person will be allowed throughout the length of stay. If a patient has a certified doula, they are able to stay with the patient in addition to the designated support person.

Perinatal (Before Delivery):

  • Three visitors at a time are allowed to visit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. After 8 p.m., only one visitor may stay the night and the overnight visitor must be over the age of 18.
  • Visitors under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult, other than the patient, at all times.
  • You may go to the cafeteria/Starbucks to bring food back to your room, or order off the guest menu. Carry-out is permitted, but you must meet the delivery person outside the entrance of the facility.
Labor & Delivery:
  • Two designated support people for patients in labor. If a patient has a certified doula, they may have three support people, including the doula. Please note that certified doulas will need to have a badge present and wear an approved mask.
  • The designated support people must be over 18 years of age, unless they are the parent of the baby.
  • The two designated support people must remain the same throughout the entire stay on Labor & Delivery.
  • In the Maternity OR, only one designated visitor will be allowed. If the patient has a certified doula, they may also be permitted to attend the delivery.
  • You may go to the cafeteria/Starbucks to bring food back to your room, or order off the guest menu. Carry-out is permitted, but you must meet the delivery person outside the entrance of the facility.
 Postpartum Stay:
  • Three visitors at a time are allowed to visit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. After 8 p.m., only one visitor may stay the night and the overnight visitor must be over the age of 18.
  • Visitors under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult, other than the patient, at all times.
  • Visitors are asked to respect quiet time hours which are from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. for all postpartum areas.
  • You may go to the cafeteria/Starbucks to bring food back to your room, or order off the guest menu. Carry-out is permitted, but you must meet the delivery person outside the entrance of the facility.
NICU Stay:
  • We will follow Akron Children’s guidelines for a baby in NICU.
  • We require two designated caregivers for the duration of the stay and will continue with the banding process for identification. We also have an exception process in case there are special circumstances warranting additional visitors.
  • No one under 18 may visit unless they are the parent of the baby.
