Intensive Outpatient Programs

Research shows that mental health symptoms vary in intensity over time. Summa offers several Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) for a variety of needs. IOPs are designed for individuals who require a higher level of care than weekly or monthly treatment can provide. Programs usually run three to four days a week for several hours a day, designed to accommodate work and family life.

With IOPs you are able to establish a foundation for long term recovery. We offer IOPs in the areas of general psychiatry, substance abuse treatment and the treatment of post traumatic stress.

Addiction Medicine Intensive Outpatient Program

The Addiction Medicine Intensive Outpatient Program is a group therapy treatment program for those with substance use disorder diagnoses. Available days or evenings, the program runs three to four days a week, three hours a day, for an average of 16 to 20 sessions.

Our program is abstinence-based and supports the use of a 12-step recovery program for obtaining and maintaining a chemical-free lifestyle. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)/12-step program attendance, family involvement and random drug screenings are mandatory.

Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program

Our Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program provides group-based treatment to those with a wide range of mental health issues. Patients discharged from inpatient care will benefit from this program, as well as patients who do not require hospitalization but need more psychiatric care than weekly outpatient programs can provide. Available days or evenings, the program runs three or four days a week, three hours a day, for an average of 16 to 20 sessions. It is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians and clinical counselors.

We treat both primary psychiatric patients as well as those with a dual diagnosis, such as substance use disorder and related psychiatric problems. Participants are typically dealing with mood disorders (including major depression and bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders, relationship problems and/or a combination of mental health and substance abuse problems. The program includes a weekly, mandatory family program.
