Hospital Pharmacy Services

Summa Health's hospital pharmacy services, available at Summa Health — Akron, Barberton and St. Thomas Campuses, prioritize high-quality, cost-effective pharmaceutical care to patients.

The Pharmacy Department at Summa Health's hospitals is a 24-hour operation responsible for dispensing medications daily for an average inpatient population of 450 patients with additional services provided in the outpatient setting. The Department consists of pharmacists, certified pharmacy technicians and support personnel, working together to assure patients receive the highest quality pharmaceutical care possible.

Summa Health's hospital pharmacy services include:

  • renal drug monitoring
  • drug interaction monitoring
  • patient care rounding
  • medication teaching
  • therapeutic drug monitoring
  • drug order review
  • drug information support for care providers 

Clinical and distributive support is currently provided by EPIC, Omnicell, BD (Pyxis, Alaris, Logistics) InMAR, Wolters-Kluwer Health, and a comprehensive medical library.

The Pharmacy Department serves as an experiential teaching site and internship site for all Ohio colleges of pharmacy as well as other schools. A PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency, PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency, and a PGY2 Pain Management and Palliative Care Pharmacy Residency are also offered.
