History and Recognition

Established in July 1999, Summa Health Palliative and Summa Health Hospice provide care in Northeast Ohio, offering optimum care for patients and their loved ones. Our board-certified medical directors contribute over 80 years’ experience combined with Summa’s expert multidisciplinary team, and they are involved with staff on a daily basis.

Awards and Recognition

Summa Health Hospice has exceeded patient satisfaction scores of 98 percent since opening.

Circle of Life Citation of Honor Award

In 2010, we received the American Hospital Association’s Circle of Life Citation of Honor award. Summa Health Palliative and Summa Health Hospice were recognized for research, achievements in medical education and work with long-term care facilities.

The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval

Summa Health Palliative has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval®. The Advanced Certification for Palliative Care standards focuses on patient and family-centered care in order to optimize the quality of life for patients with serious illness.

Summa currently offers a comprehensive education program and the region’s only ACGME-accredited adult palliative medicine fellowship.
