Fellowship Programs

Addiction Medicine

The Summa Health Addiction Medicine Fellowship program engages the underserved in community-based settings including integrated behavioral health community centers, MAT facilities and evidence-based treatment centers and offers a unique robust fellowship grounded in addiction medicine.

Cardiovascular Disease

The Summa Health Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program is based out of Summa Health System – Akron Campus. The Akron Campus is a level 1 trauma center and the flagship hospital of Summa Health with more than 700 inpatient beds.  

Critical Care Medicine

The Critical Care Medicine Fellowship is based at Summa Health System’s Akron campus, which features a dedicated critical care tower with 78 ICU beds. In addition to robust training in the high-volume, high-acuity medical ICU, fellows will also gain experience through rotations in neurocritical care, surgical and cardiothoracic critical care, pulmonary medicine, palliative care, and other electives.

Geriatric Medicine

The Summa Health Geriatric Medicine Fellowship is ACGME accredited and provides an evidence-based curriculum designed to train and enable physicians to assume positions of leadership as clinicians, educators and administrators.

Hospice and Palliative Medicine

The Summa Health Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship was instituted in 2006. This fellowship was in the first group of hospice and palliative medicine fellowship programs to receive accreditation through the ACGME.

Interventional Cardiology

The Summa Health Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program is based out of Summa Health System – Akron Campus. The Akron Campus is a level 1 trauma center and the flagship hospital of Summa Health with more than 700 inpatient beds.  

Medical Simulation

Medical Simulation, The Summa Health Simulation Fellowship, was the first simulation fellowship in Ohio. The program has been privileged to train fellows who graduated from domestic and international training programs and multiple subspecialties, including pediatrics, emergency medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology. Our team has a diverse background that enables us to provide a unique training opportunity to all of our fellows, ensuring their continued success in their future careers as educational experts.

Advanced GI – MIS / Bariatric Surgery

A one-year fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery is available at Summa Health System – Akron Campus. In collaboration with the Department of Surgery, and with support from the Summa Health System Foundation’s Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery (CMIT), the fellowship is geared towards advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgical applications in general and bariatric surgery.

Sports Medicine

The Summa Health System ACGME accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship is based in the Department of Family Medicine and is a one year program that accepts two fellows per year.

Plastic Surgery

The Summa Health Plastic Surgery Fellowship is an approved three-year program leading to board eligibility by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The program is based at Summa Health System and includes rotations at Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron and Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
