Empowering our Employees and Community

As an organization with a mission to “contribute to a healthier community,” Summa made a promise to not only acknowledge racism as a public health crisis, but to take swift action in addressing this topic with resources, education and tangible commitments. We have identified three areas of focus for Summa’s action plan to address racism and inequity. To view the memos released by Summa leadership please click here.

We are proud to share the important empowerment resources below around our three focus areas and pillars of our Summa Action Plan. We hope the resources below assist you in broadening your understanding of the racism and inequity, provide you with ways to take action and prepare you to address health equity with policy and service delivery planning efforts.

Education

To help fight racism, we have to understand it first. Listed below are general resources to help create a common understanding of the crisis, address unconscious bias and create a knowledge base to have a meaningful and productive dialogue.

Advocacy

To provide tools for community engagement, examples on how to partner with elected officials and agencies of government to support underserved populations access health and economic improvement opportunities.

Health

To support enhancements in access to care, address/reduce healthcare disparities and develop culturally competent and relevant health education and literature.

At Summa Health, we continue to stand with those fighting for justice and will hold ourselves accountable to these commitments to eliminate disparities in healthcare and beyond. Thank you for standing with us as we all advocate for impactful change.
