Department of Surgery and Trauma Research

The goals of the Department of Surgery and Trauma are to:

  1. Support surgeons and surgeons-in-training to conduct research that will benefit patients, favoring translational research
  2. Maintain and advance a surgical educational curriculum that advances clinical quality
  3. Support innovation in the medical space to improve the provision of medical care and to facilitate improved education

The Department strives for the highest quality surgical training as well as sponsoring aspiring physicians. To this end, an integrated research/educational curriculum has been developed that encourages regionally and nationally recognized scholarly activity. The Department participates in research trials of pharmaceuticals and medical devices that are relevant to the care of its patients.

Current areas of focus within Surgical Research include:

  • Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery
  • Trauma
  • General Surgery
  • Cardiovascular Surgery

Collaborations:  Working relationships with Northeast Ohio Medical University, The University of Akron, Kent State University, NASA and industry partners.  Faculty in the Department share academic appointments at NEOMED, The University of Akron, Kent State University, and Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
