Heart Care

The Summa Health Heart and Vascular Institute’s skilled team of specialists and supporting healthcare professionals are trained to treat a wide range of cardiac issues. Focused on positive patient outcomes, we effectively treat such a broad range of heart diseases and conditions by using advanced medical management and surgery options, as well as the most comprehensive list of cardiology services.

Valve Disease

The Summa Health heart valve program allows patients to meet with a geriatrician, cardiologist, cardiothoracic surgeon, and team of specialized nurses all in the same visit. The most common heart treatment options include open-heart valve surgery, non-invasive valve surgery and medical management.

Coronary Artery Disease

Summa Health uses advanced imaging to look for possible coronary blockages through the use of cardiac catheterization. These procedures insert small, thin tubes into the blood vessels, which are carefully threaded through arteries. By assessing coronary or peripheral arteries, our doctors can better develop a treatment plan for your blocked blood vessels.

Vascular Disease

Summa Health vascular surgeons are specialists who are highly trained to treat diseases of the vascular system. They make sure that patients with vascular health issues know and understand all their options, from medical management to the surgical repair and redirect of diseased blood vessels.

Abnormal Heart Rhythm

Summa Health heart specialists can diagnose and plot the best treatment for your specific arrhythmia or abnormal heart rhythm disorder. Options may include medication, as well as ablation, cardioversion, electrophysiology, atrial fibrillation (AFib), anticoagulation therapy, and pacemaker or defibrillator devices.

Heart Failure

Our heart failure experts are specially trained to assess, treat and provide acute and long-term care for people with any stage of heart failure. To optimize outcomes, we provide a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary team approach led by heart failure physicians. This team collaborates on all stages of care, from diagnosis to personalized treatment planning through follow-up and chronic disease management.

Cardiac Device Clinic

The Summa Health Cardiac Device Clinic monitors all patients who have an implantable device. Your cardiologist can learn valuable information about how your heart and the device are working – and can make adjustments if necessary.

Cardiac Imaging and Testing

Procedures such as cardiac CTA, coronary calcium scoring and cardiac MRI provide the Summa Health cardiac team with much of the same information as the more conventional tests, yet are significantly less invasive to the patient. The procedures also are easier to perform and often provide faster, more accurate results.

Cardiothoracic Surgery

Cardiothoracic surgery, also known as thoracic surgery, generally refers to procedures of the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other organs in the chest. It may be used to treat a wide range of conditions, from heart failure and pulmonary embolism to esophageal cancer. Our board-certified cardiothoracic surgeons perform a breadth of these surgeries, including complex and advanced cases.

Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The Summa Health Heart, Lung and Vascular Rehab Clinic offers an exercise, education, and lifestyle program tailored to your individual needs. Our specialists include exercise physiologists, nurses and respiratory therapists who will guide you through the exercise.

Clinical and Research Trials

Summa Health offers patients the option of enrolling in clinical trials for the treatment of many diseases, including heart disease. These clinical trials offer patients state-of-the-art care and potential access to the newest treatments.
