Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer
As the senior clinical executive of Summa Health, Dr. Zonfa provides system-wide clinical leadership for the design, development and integration of programs that support a culture of quality, patient safety and enhanced member experience across the system.
Dr. Zonfa offers a unique combination of physician experience and administrative perspective, proactive leadership, and data-driven decision making achieving success in complex, multi-site clinical and health plan enterprises. From 2016 through March 2022, he served as the chief medical officer at SummaCare where he was instrumental in driving significant health cost savings, industry-leading CAPHS results, and SummaCare’s CMS 5-star rating.
Dr. Zonfa is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who received his training in the OB/GYN Residency Program at Summa Health where he currently serves as a faculty member in the Women’s Health Clinic. Prior to joining Summa Health, he held various physician roles in the area, including Chief of Women’s Services and Director of Risk Management & Patient Safety at Ohio Permanente Medical Group and Healthspan Integrated Physicians.
Dr. Zonfa earned his medical doctorate from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, as well as a master’s degree in business administration from Baldwin-Wallace University. He also holds a number of industry licensures and certifications and is active in various community organizations and committees, including as a member of the board of directors of The Goodwill Industries of Akron and the executive leadership board of the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
