Juve Family Behavioral Health Pavilion

The Juve Family Behavioral Health Pavilion opened to the community in late January 2023. This state-of-the-art behavioral health pavilion underscores how we care for our community as a whole and the importance we place on behavioral health treatment. The 64 private room inpatient and outpatient facility serves as a home to all levels of behavioral health care and integrates these services with the medical care on our Akron Campus, enhancing our ability to take care of the whole person.

Thoughtful design went into creating spaces that provide a high quality, comforting experience for patients and staff. Within its walls, you’ll find many outstanding services including:
  • Partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs
  • Traumatic Stress Center
  • Traditional outpatient psychiatry and psychology services
  • Inpatient care
On the ground floor of the building you will find several other amenities.

The Dr. Joseph D. Varley Conference Center, made possible by a generous gift from The Wildflower Foundation, can accommodate large community gatherings, with as many as 118 participants. The versatile space includes retractable walls that can transform one room into three separate rooms.

The Heritage Center - Honoring the Legacy of St. Thomas Hospital, is dedicated to the history of the treatment of alcoholism, the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), and Dr. Bob and Sister Ignatia. Historic artifacts have been moved from St. Thomas Campus and are on display for visitors from across the world interested in our rich history in the treatment of addiction. Visitors can watch a video on the history of AA or peruse the beautiful artifacts.

The Reflection Center is a nondenominational chapel, where visitors can take a moment to reflect and pray. Windows in the Reflection Center overlook the beautiful Serenity garden, which features 12 granite benches representing the 12 steps of recovery for AA.

Investing in Behavioral Health

In April 2016, Summa Health publicly announced the details of its long-term master facility plan. The plan represented a massive investment into healthcare facilities and services that would solidify Summa’s place as the leading healthcare provider in the greater Akron region, aligning with the organization’s focus on improving the health of the community by taking ownership of healthcare outcomes for the populations we serve. The plan included reimagining Summa’s Akron and Barberton campuses, along with making key investments in new outpatient capacity in our market.

We are excited to begin Phase 2, which represents an investment of just under $90 million.

A key component of Phase 2 is the construction of a new 60-bed inpatient and outpatient Behavioral Health pavilion on the Akron Campus. This state-of-the-art space will serve as a home for all levels of behavioral health care and will play an important role in our population health strategies. Our population health strategy requires us to look at the whole person when treating a patient and this new facility gets to the heart of that practice.

As always, this building is more than just an investment in bricks and mortar. It's an investment in the economy of our region. It's an investment in improving the overall health of the communities we serve through population health management. And, it's an investment in the future of Summa Health.
