Summa Health celebrates Joyce and Bob Rice and Dr. Bauman at Summa Society Celebration
On May 25, 2022, at the annual Summa Society Celebration, Summa Health celebrated the donors and volunteers whose generosity impacts the lives of thousands of patients and their families. More than 330 guests gathered at the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn as Summa Health thanked its closest friends and benefactors and honored several remarkable individuals for their longtime support.
Dr. Cliff Deveny, president and chief executive officer of Summa Health, was joined by George Strickler, chair, Summa Health Board of Directors; Patrick O’Neill, chair, Summa Foundation Board of Directors; and Phylis Ferrara, president, Summa Foundation and chief development officer, Summa Health in thanking guests.
The prestigious Boniface DeRoo Award for Philanthropy — Summa Health’s highest philanthropic honor — was awarded to Joyce and Bob Rice, who have made a meaningful difference for our patients through a family legacy marked by transformational generosity and longtime leadership.
Dr. William “Bill” Bauman, a pioneer in the field of cardiology at Summa Health, was honored for his 43 years of leadership, service and philanthropy to Summa Health with the Distinguished Physician Award, the health system’s highest physician honor.
During a private reception earlier that evening, Dr. Robert and Susan Donahue, Huntington Bank and Dr. Eugene and the late Evelyn Jursek were inducted into the Thomas W. Cornell Philanthropic Leadership Society, which recognizes benefactors who have given more than $1 million to Summa Health.
