2017 Summa Society Celebration

On May 24, Summa Health honored its most generous donors at the annual Summa Society Celebration. The event celebrates the powerful and lasting spirit of philanthropy that has sustained Summa Health for the past 125 years. Nearly 300 guests – a record for this event – attended the celebration at Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls.

The evening began with a special reception for members of the Thomas W. Cornell Society, which recognizes benefactors who have given $1 million or more to Summa Health. Each received a newly designed pin from Dr. Cliff Deveny, interim president and chief executive officer of Summa Health, acknowledging their remarkable support for the health system.

During the dinner hour, all guests viewed a brief video of the West Tower groundbreaking ceremony and, later, a video showing some of the ways their generosity has strengthened the ability of Summa Health to provide the highest quality, compassionate care to patients, their families and the community. Dr. Deveny thanked all guests for their help in bringing Summa Health to this point in its history. 

In a highlight of the evening, Gary B. Williams, M.D., received the Summa Health Distinguished Physician Award, the highest physician honor bestowed by the health system. Dr. Deveny and James McIlvaine, chair, Summa Health board of directors, presented the prestigious award to Dr. Williams following a video honoring his life and career.
